I've been trying to get JING screenshots of our library catalogue into a GLO for a demo/exercise for the library. The quality is poor once the image is uploaded. Any alternatives that anyone can suggest? Jon.

We are developing a series of GLOs will introduce students from any discipline to a structured framework for looking at artefacts and images. The initial versions will be generic but the advantage of using GLOmaker is that they can be designed to be easy for lecturers to adapt and create their own discipline-specific versions, by uploading their own images or adding more specialised sections, links to further information about eg materials and techniques. The generic GLOs will cover key questions to ask about any object, along with 'compare and contrast' exercises to help sharpen students' observation skills. The series will use copyright cleared images, which may include materials from VADS and other image archives. Weare exploring the possibility of locating a future variation on the VADS website in order to generate randomised pairs of related images for more advanced comparative exercises.

Description: to investigate accessibility, legibility, road safety and personal security. The GLO will include a survey of selected routes and transport facilities that will incite the user (i.e. students) to adopt a transverse critical approach of the whole journey environment and then assess it through these four main parameters. The intention is to make this as interactive as possible.

GLOS (s) to produce an e-Learning application for the Department of Applied Social Sciences (DASS) at London Metropolitan University. The application will be used by postgraduate students in Public Health (MSc) on the core module of Social Epidemiology. The application will assist students in preparation for assessment by allowing them to interactively analyse and evaluate the impact of social, political and economic circumstances on populations and develop critical understanding and problem-solving techniques to improve public health in a national or international scenario. By using the GLO Maker this resource can be designed as a framework or template to enable its re-application in other contexts.

We are developing a GLO to help students prepare for assessment and critique of visual practice - sometimes known as 'the crit'. This resource will introduce students to the variety of forms that studio critiques can take and help them prepare for and benefit from this form of feedback. It will incorporate video footage of actual crits to show the range of communicative modes in use, and illustrate staff and student discussion of the issues raised. We are using GLOmaker to make it easy to generate a range of variations for different studio disciplines (and for other kinds of presentation in disciplines other than art and design) and to enable students to enter their own answers in response to prompt questions, to help them prepare fin advance of the formal crit.

Up to15 Generative Learning Objects are being created for multidisciplinary online teaching at the University of Manchester. Initially, these GLOs will be used by undergraduate students in Combined Studies courses to develop evaluative and interpretative skills. Funded by Learnhigher the project hopes to employ PHD students todevelop a GLO, in one or two of the listed disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas, based on the eMI (Evaluating Multiple Interpretations) pattern. The GLOs will enable students to study multiple interpretations of a key idea/image or concept. Two workshops are planned at the start of project in December 2009 and then early in 2010 to showcase the GLOs"
GLO update! We now have eight GLOs completed and a further 5 in production. Topics include Evolutionary Psychology, Philosophy, Auteurship in Film, Simone de Beauvoir and more...... I hope to be able to make some available via the Gallery soon and for others, where copyright is an issue, I will provide an email contact for further details. The majority of PhD students producing the GLOs have reported that they have found them easy to build and have enjoyed the process and will use it again. They have also reported interest from academics in their disciplines.

We're updating the old Medical Sociology online modules using GLO-Maker. These have been highly successful and widely used over the years (they were originally produced in the late 90s) but they are sliding into obsolescence and are badly in need of a 21st C makeover. GLO-maker seems like a useful product to achieve this and we are already starting to identify new components. The academic side of the project is being overseen by Simon Cohn, Senior Lecturer and Medical Anthropologist who runs the Social Context of Health and Illness course for first year Cambridge medical students. We plan to produce a number of podcast-type Flash videos and add some self-assessment and reflective questions.
